About Amelia

Amelia grew up on a large farm, surrounded by many different animals, livestock and pets. Always curious to learn more about them, she pursued higher education and a degree in the animal sciences. Her background is in agriculture and she has a 5 year university diploma in Animal Sciences (B.Sc.) with a concentration in Behavior and Wellbeing, from Purdue University (USA). There she studied subjects including: genetics, nutrition, physiology, breeding, farm management, microbiology & diseases, evolutionary behavior, animal welfare and ethics.

She has many years of experience in tending to animals and farms. Taking care of a wide array of species from young to very elderly: dogs, cats, birds, rodents, horses, and many different livestock animals! Previous professional occupations include working in government livestock behavior research facilities, various university animal research labs, and volunteering in a veterinary medicine research and teaching school. She also enjoys adopting rescue animals and retraining them.

She currently lives in Tai Tapu on a small farm, with her two dogs, a horse, three alpacas, three pigs, some sheep, and Bob the cat!

Having lots of pets over the years, she understands very well the concern owners feel for their animals when they are busy, or gone on holiday. Pets at Ame's Hound Haus will receive large amounts of attention, play-time/walks around the property, and important rest periods to settle down. Depending on the pet's needs and energy levels, will determine how much of each. She hopes that you will feel very comfortable that your pets are in professional and competent hands.
